House of Love The House of Love
Released September 15
Step into the vibrant world of The House Of Love, where music and inspiration intertwine to create a sonic journey that has left an indelible mark on the indie scene. Formed in London in 1986 by guitarist and vocalist Guy Chadwick, lead guitarist Terry Bickers, bassist Chris Groothuizen, and drummer Pete Evans, The House Of Love emerged from the vibrant music scene of the time, fueled by the energy of witnessing The Jesus And Mary Chain's performances.
The band's signing to Creation Records ignited a fervor in the music press, and their single "Shine On" and eponymous debut album quickly became revered classics on the indie disco circuit. By 1989, The House Of Love had reached a new level of prominence, catching the attention of Fontana, a label under the PolyGram group.
Their debut album for Fontana, also referred to as 'The Butterfly Album' due to its distinctive Trevor Key artwork, was released in February 1990. Despite the challenges of its creation and high expectations, the album exudes confidence and invention. Produced by a diverse group of individuals, it offers a glimpse into the band's creative dynamism. Notably, the re-recorded version of "Shine On" became a UK Top 20 hit, while tracks like "Beatles And The Stones" foreshadow the softer side of future acts like Oasis.
This reissue faithfully reproduces the original 1990 Fontana UK release, complete with a printed inner sleeve and lyric sheet. The album's timeless sound is pressed onto high-quality 180g vinyl, ensuring a listening experience that captures the essence of The House Of Love's distinctive blend of indie rock.
