A musician of great virtuosity, Luiz Bonfa (1922-2001) ranks among the key architects of the bossa nova sound and the greatest masters of Brazilian popular music.

As a composer and performer, Bonfa was an exponent of the bold, lyrical, lushly orchestrated, and emotionally charged samba-cacao style (songs with a slow-paced samba rhythm) that predated the arrival of Joao Gilberto's more subdued bossa nova style.

This superb release includes Bonfa's classic version of his tune 'Manha de Carnaval' (aka 'Black Orpheus').
